One week from today, I will be sitting at my new desk, at a new company. This is my last week here at the Mental Health Center. 5 days and counting. Wow. Sure has gone by fast! It feels like just a few months ago I was interning here and still in college. Now, I have been here nearly 3 years and made some of the most amazing friends whom I hope to keep in touch with for many jobs to come.
My time here has been a blessing- I will forever be an advocate for those with mental illness. If I would have asked myself 5 years ago what my biggest "causes" would be in the future, I doubt I would have said mental health. Interacting with clients has given me a fresh perspective in humanity, in that we are all human and all in need at some points or others. Life is beautiful and everyone should be able to experience it to the fullest.
I have had an incredible team here, people who I will look up to for the rest of my professional career. Our marketing director sue made everyday worth coming to work for. Many laughs were had in her presence and I always knew I had a confidant in her. My boss Kitty taught me most of the things I know. I have grown emotionally, professionally and personally under her direction and mentoring. I feel lucky to be connected to someone who is so well-known in the community. and she says "i owe her for life," which is probably true. i am ever thankful to her for taking me from an eager, probably over-zealous college student, into poised, collected Chair of the Associate Board for our Foundation. What a long journey it has probably been for her.
There are of course others I am leaving out, but overall, I will miss the people of The Mental Health Center immensely and have been lucky to work with them.
on another note: Just got the new Train cd and i am loving it. So the Music Lovers for today is this:
"You save my life, with every word you say. you shine your light for me to find the way. just hold me tight and cross your heart to stay. here with me, born to be, every part of you, sailing in and out of half moon bay."
~Half Moon Bay, Train
p.s. any reference to the beach will make the list! :)
Hope your week is as exciting as mine! :) Wish me luck on the new venture.
P.S.S. I have to send a shout out to my amazing family who dealt with me going back and forth about the new job for days on end and making final decisions 4 or 5 times. Thank you Mama, Daddy and Sissy! The provided amazing guidance (although I asked them to make the decision for me a couple times to no avail), a listening ear and much encouragement.
Jonathan will be the first to point out that he is the reason i got the job, which is probably true. So I must thank him as well for recommending me for the position and standing by me and listening to me obsess over the right decision.
All in all, I am blessed and very much looking forward to this new exciting adventure while remembering the amazing place I have come from. xxoo
